The W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center, located in the heart of the Cal Poly Pomona campus, is a showcase facility that houses approximately 60 purebred Arabian horses.
The Horse Center greatly impacts academics, clubs, and student programs by having the privilege of providing students an up close personal experience with Arabian horses. These include the Equine Studies Minor, Foal Watch, Horsemanship Club, Equestrian Team, Horses for Heroes, Horse Power Womxn Power, Summer Camp, and the traditional Sunday Shows.
The operation of the Horse Center is possible because of the dedication of student workers; you can only imagine the time and effort the students put in to provide for the number of horses we have at the facility. Each student worker plays an essential role to ensure the horses get the care they need so that they are able to participate in the programs we provide. Our grooms, weekend feeders, live-ins, program assistants and maintenance workers are all students in the University. Many are students of the College of Agriculture, but we are open to students of all majors who are interested in developing horsemanship skills regardless of horse and riding experience.
The W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center relies on the generosity and support of friends, alumni, and the Arabian horse community to help to pay the student workers so that they are able to continue caring for and working with the horses while receiving an education. Students are able to work by participating in breeding techniques, foaling, training, feeding, and riding horses. While on the job these students are able to learn hands on experience that they would otherwise not receive without a horse or horse facility. However, Cal Poly Pomona is widely recognized for its Learn by Doing philosophy. Regardless of experience, students are able to get up close and personal with a horse and learn by physically touching feed, putting a saddle on a horse, riding a horse, bathing a horse, medicating, and waking up before the sun rises to feed over 60 horses at the Horse Center. This is what it means for the students to Learn By Doing.
Now more than ever, we encourage you to support the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center so that we can continue to financially support student workers as well as provide exceptional educational horse experience. You are an important part of our community, as generous donations support our Learn by Doing mission.
