On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, and the hospitality industry took a turn for the worst. Travel came to a halt, hotels shut down, restaurants closed, events were canceled, and millions of hospitality professionals lost their jobs, were furloughed, or had their hours cut.
More than 75% of Collins College students rely on financial assistance to get through school, and most work full-time in the industry to support themselves and earn their required 800 hours of professional hospitality work experience. So for a people-focused industry like hospitality, the new reality has been devastating, and our students are now struggling to complete their degree, keep a job, or even a roof over their head.
Although faculty, staff, and Board of Advisors members are working diligently to ensure that students can get by in these difficult times, the added support of our extended community can amplify these efforts. Alumni and friends play an important role in ensuring our students’ continued success. Time and again, our supporters demonstrate that The Collins College community looks out for one another. After all, it’s in our DNA to take care of others!
With your help The Collins College can continue to fulfill its vision to be a world-class college for shaping future hospitality leaders.
