WHAT IS CONCRETE CANOE?
Concrete Canoe is a canoe made of concrete that can float in water. For the purposes of the Cal Poly Pomona Team, the concrete canoe being created will be utilized to compete at the 2023 Pacific Southwest Symposium (PSWS) at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. In 1971, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign held the first intercollegiate race against Purdue. Since then university engineering students have constructed concrete canoes and competed against each other. The Concrete Canoe Competition provides civil engineering students with hands-on, leadership, and practical experience.
WHO ARE WE?
We are Cal Poly Pomona students civil engineering students who want to gain hands-on, leadership, and practical experience. Through Concrete Canoe CPP students have the opportunity to learn about safety, problem-solving, how to engage with their community, and how to strengthen themselves. As CPP students our goal is to support each other and our surrounding community and make it to nationals in 2024! Our Concrete Canoe team has been powerful, and this year we were able to build a canoe! By building a canoe, raising money, and working together we are able to better understand team dynamics and the importance of being involved. In 2024, the CPP Concrete Canoe team will have the amazing opportunity of going to Hawai'i to race with their constructed canoe; however, we cannot get to Hawai'i without you! With the help of you, our community, we can raise the money necessary to construct, practice, ship, and win with our canoe. Our mission for the 2023-2024 academic year is to strife for safety while having fun as a team!
THANK YOU!
On behalf of CPP Concrete Canoe, we appreciate any and all contributions made to support our group members.
