Supporting Students with Disabilities

On Giving Day 2023, the Disability Resource Center is proud to partner with the Access and Disability Alliance to raise funds for scholarships that support disabled students and students with disabilities at Cal Poly Pomona!

About the Access and Disability Alliance Scholarship

Thanks to the support of last year's generous donors, we were able to award two students the Access and Disability Alliance Scholarship. With your help, we can support more students with more significant financial impact to help students spend time focusing on their academic goals and attaining experience aligned with their career goals.

Access and Disability Alliance Scholarships are unique because they are available to any CPP student who is enrolled at least part-time (including international students and transfer students) regardless of class-standing. Our essay prompt asks students to describe their participation in disability community activism or advocacy beyond merely supporting and acknowledging that disabled people are inherently valuable members of our society

Following our values of Community, Intersectionality, Justice, Accountability, Belonging, Radical Love, Joy, and Common Good, our scholarship supports disabled students and allies who foster these values through their actions and in their plans for their future career.

Our long term goal is to establish a Disability Justice Scholar fund to ANNUALLY support TWO disabled students/students with disabilities or allies, from any academic discipline who have contributed to the advancement of the principles of disability justice and disabled people

About the Disability Resource Center

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) removes barriers to access for students with disabilities so they may have equal opportunities to participate in all aspects of the university experience.

Of all students with disabilities who enroll in college, the average retention rate is only about 12%, and graduation rates are as low as 13% compared to 30% among non-disabled counterparts. Statistics like these underscore the importance of understanding the specific needs of this student population.

The DRC provides a number of services to students with disabilities, including accommodations, academic advising, student success coaching, technology resources, and ARCHES, a TRiO support services project that provides direct academic support.

Thank you for your support – it makes all the difference!
