Established in 1982, Maximizing Engineering Potential (MEP) aspires to be a premier center of excellence for preparing diverse communities of students for academic, professional, and leadership opportunities in a global society. While serving all students, MEP continues to recruit and prepare historically under-represented minority, women, low-income, first-generation students for the engineering workforce. MEP collaborates with engineering industry, federal/state agencies, cultural affinity societies: American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES); National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE); Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE); Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE); and Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) was established in 2021 as part of the Cal Poly Pomona STEM Success Network. Originally Women in Engineering (WE) program, WiSE provides resources and support services for students to succeed in STEM, focusing on retention efforts and environment enhancement programs. WiSE is dedicated to not only creating a supportive community for our current STEM students, but also strives to inspire young students to consider STEM as a possible career.
Your support will help us expand our program to include engineering students and science students, as well as middle school and high school students participating in the Femineer Program. The program is a great opportunity for participants to increase their self-confidence, build a sense of belonging within the engineering and science community, and grow their network with engineering and science professionals. Exposing students to the creativity and excitement of STEM through hands-on activities and role models is an excellent way to build confidence in their capacity within the STEM field.
"Engineering In Your Future" is designed to acclimate new students to college life by providing academic and cultural tools that will prepare them for long-term success. With over 80% of our students receiving need-based aid and 90% who are first in the family to attend college, MEP-WiSE seeks funding for its summer program.
The Femineer Program provides K-12 students with project-based learning and engineering student mentors. The program engages participants through highly creative, hands-on activities. Femineers acquire the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to become confident and strong in their future careers. We hope to inspire many young girls to reach their potential through engineering!
On behalf of MEP-WiSE, we appreciate any contributions that are made this Giving Day. Thank you for fostering our students' success!
