The Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department values experiential learning, and most of our courses are hands-on. To support students in their educational journey, we need funds for laboratory activities that cement their knowledge in basic animal management, physiology, nutrition, reproduction, and endocrinology.
We are seeking innovative tools for skills training in Meat Science without a processing component. Our Meat Processing Plant—one of 5 at California university campuses—was shut down in 2015. We have continued to teach Meat Science lectures, however, our graduates lack practical experiences in identifying, cutting, judging, preparing, and cooking meat cuts. Butcher Pork and Beef Cut Models will provide the much-needed learning opportunities for our students.
We would like to equip our endocrine and reproduction labs with visual and diagnostic aides including slides, glucometers, pregnancy detection kits, and semen analysis equipment. Although our students are currently learning about management and diagnostic protocols in the lecture, they need these technologies to enhance their learning.
Funds raised will be used to purchase laboratory instruments and supplies to provide experiential learning for our Animal and Veterinary Sciences students in several lab courses.
An investment of any size will allow our students to be better prepared and more competitive in their future careers.
