Diverse Stories in STEM
The Diverse Stories in STEM (DSiS) at Cal Poly Pomona brings experts from the fields of STEM to campus to share their research, experiences and personal journeys. These talks give students the chance to learn from scientists who represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives, helping them see how diversity strengthens discovery and innovation. By connecting directly with professionals, students gain inspiration, mentorship and insight into what a future in science can look like.
The purpose of Diverse Stories in STEM is to invite incredible speakers to discuss scientific topics relevant to our students and a speaker who represents identities that are underrepresented among their professors. This series directly serves our Animal Science and Biology undergraduate and graduate students as a course-embedded speaker series but is open to all students and the community within and around CPP. So far, we’ve had three speakers, Dr Christine Wilkinson, Dr Adrian Fisher, and Miguel Ordenana, and are hopeful to continue the series well into the future with your help.
Your support helps us continue this impactful series. Donations cover the cost of hosting speakers, including travel, lodging at Kellogg West and meals, as well as venue reservations and lunch for attending students. With your help, we can provide meaningful opportunities for learning and connection that empower students to explore their passions, broaden their perspectives, and see themselves as future leaders in science. Together, we can celebrate diverse voices and spark new possibilities in STEM.
