BioTrek hosts over 1500 students each year through our K-12 program, which provides the youth of the region unique learning experiences in STEM. When visiting BioTrek, students learn about the ethnobotanical uses of plants by Native Americans in California and people in rainforests throughout the world, the importance and uniqueness of the ecosystems in California, and what the world was like during the time of the dinosaurs. They also have first-hand experiences with animals from a variety of habitats. The Learning Centers at BioTrek (the Rainforest, Ethnobotany Garden, Mesozoic Garden, and Project Blue) are unique and provide these young people with a positive image of the world and of college.
Unfortunately, many of the schools in Southern California cannot afford to bring their students to BioTrek without assistance. The STEM Field Trip Account provides funding for transportation for K-12 students at schools in need of support. Please consider donating to this account so BioTrek can continue to provide meaningful experiences for the youth of Southern California.
